Human Rights and International Solidarity
Side event at the 15th Human Right Council

During the 15th session of Human Rights Council, the “Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII” and “New Humanity” organized a side event co-sponsored by the OIDEL, Henry Dunant University College and the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, Republic of Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo on: “Human Rights and International Solidarity”
The Representative to the United Nations in Geneva of the Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII Maria Mercedes Rossi, the President of New Humanity, Francesco Pizzorno and Msgr. Silvano Tomasi, Apostolic Nuncio, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations welcomed the partecipants and introduced the theme of the meeting and the vocation of their organizations.
The other speakers of the event were:
Rudi Muhammad Rizki the Independent Expert on Human Rights and International Solidarity, that commented the 2010 Report on human rights and international solidarity
Esther Salamanca, Professor of International Law at the University of Valladolid, Spain that spoke about “The principle of international solidarity and the extraterritorial human rights obligations of States”
Stefano Comazzi, Vice-President of the Development NGO Azione per un Mondo Unito, Italy that refered about the interventions of his ONG in Indonesia after the tsunami.
Elisabetta Garuti, Rainbow Project Coordinator of the APG23 from Italy that illustrated the microcredit programme of APG23 in Zambia.
Shyami Puvimanasinghe, author and researcher on International Development, Human Rights and Governance from Sri Lanka that worked as assistant of the Indipendent Expert in writing the 2010 report.
